Editor extensions

# Bring GitStudio into your editor.

Prefer to stay in VS Code or Cursor? GitStudio ships two open-source extensions — the same engine as the desktop app, live on the VS Code Marketplace and Open VSX. Pick the full suite, or just the merge editor.

- VS Code
- Cursor
- VSCodium
- Windsurf
- code-server

Two focused choices

## Which one do you need?

### [GitStudio](https://gitstudio.dev/gitstudio-extension)

The full Git workflow in your editor: a commit graph, inline blame, staging, rebase, and pull requests.

v1.20.0 · 723 installs · 10,443 downloads

### [Merge Studio](https://gitstudio.dev/merge-studio-extension)

The three-pane merge editor and the conflicts dashboard on their own, with a named undo history.

v1.4.1 · 694 installs · 4,131 downloads

You don't need both — the GitStudio extension already includes the same merge editor and conflicts dashboard. Merge Studio is for people who want _only_ that.

Editor coverage

## Where they install.

A “VS Code extension” runs in every editor built on VS Code. Both extensions publish to two registries so they reach all of them from one build.

| Editor | Registry | GitStudio | Merge Studio |
| ----------- | ----------- | --------- | ------------ |
| VS Code | Marketplace | ✓ | ✓ |
| Cursor | Open VSX | ✓ | ✓ |
| VSCodium | Open VSX | ✓ | ✓ |
| Windsurf | Open VSX | ✓ | ✓ |
| code-server | Open VSX | ✓ | ✓ |

Marketplace vs Open VSX

## Two registries, one build.

Microsoft's VS Code Marketplace serves stock VS Code. **Open VSX** — the vendor-neutral, Eclipse-run registry — serves Cursor, VSCodium, Windsurf, and code-server. GitStudio publishes the identical build to both, so whichever editor you run, you get the same extension and the same updates.

Same extension id, same version, same engine — `gitstudio.gitstudio` and `gitstudio.merge-studio`.

Part of GitStudio

## There's a desktop app, too.

The extensions share their engine with GitStudio Desktop — the desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux, with a built-in terminal, the full GitHub client, and an AI assistant that runs on your own keys.
